Here is a recap of my birthday celebrations. Stephen ended up leaving his meetings early so that we could all at least have a quick dinner together. He grilled steak with bread and salad. It was really good. Then we all quickly ate a brownie sundae, and I left for Y.W. On Friday, Stephen had a reception for the new faculty with a spouse/partner to meet the chancellor, vice-chancellors, and other professors. We arranged for a babysitter (which was a difficult feat because of how few people we know), and I met him at the University. It was labeled as a beer and chips or wine and cheese event. I joked to Stephen that we were going to the chips and cheese event. We stayed at the reception long enough to meet everyone and slipped out so we could enjoy dinner together. We ate at a quaint, scenic seafood restaurant with beautiful views. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced (4 course meal for $18.50 from 4 to 6p.m.). Our shared meal included calamari and shrimp cocktail for appetizer, followed by the most divine clam chowder (Mom it was better than anything that we ate in Boston), rainbow trout and sirloin with tempura prawns for main dish and a cold creme brule they called burnt cream. We had the best time. It was some wonderful alone time. Neither of us could even remember the last time that we had a real date.
