Jacob has just recently started eating goldfish. His milk allergy seems to improve and we have been slowly feeding him more things with dairy in them in small amounts. He loves goldfish but he gets them on rare occasions like at church as a snack to keep him quiet. So yesterday when he told me mom there is a goldfish up my nose during Sacrament meeting I look over to see his nose bleeding and hurry to pick him up and rush him out. I had him blow and a few bits came out along with more blood. His story changed a lot to there is a whole goldfish up there to just bits. But the best part of the story is when he told me "my nose swallowed a goldfish." We called our pediatrician's office and the on-call nurse said to take him to the ER. I really didn't want to go and spend the money or time for that matter but she scared us about breathing trouble/infection so off we went. We waited for three hours. The triage nurse couldn't see anything and he was breathing out of both nostrils so I decided enough was enough, and we left. It was crazy the amount of people coming to the ER. I understand that we are the lowest of the low on the priority list so it was going to be a ridiculous wait. The caliber of people entering the hospital was insane. But that is an entirely different post. This morning we took him to our pediatrician's office, and he didn't see any remnants of the cracker left. He just said it was inflamed and to give saline rinses and watch for signs of infection.
The day was crazy because Stephen was on the stand to speak when it happened and luckily Joy had the baby so I could rush out. Then I had to teach the Sunday School lesson and later that evening Stephen had to return to church for a meeting with the regional family history people as well as give a fireside for the youth (which all played a part in my decision to leave the hospital). But we made it through. Jacob is constantly keeping me on my toes, but on the other hand to just spend time with him one on one was so endearing. His little high voice just rambles and rambles. He really is a curious thing and to get a peek inside that little mind for the time at the hospital was gratifying to my mommy heart.
