Historic Fort

I happened upon a website a few weeks ago that had some fun things for families to do in the area during the summer. One thing that was listed was Friday Family Fun Night at an Historic Fort near us. We hadn't ever been there before and so I added it to my Google calendar as a possible future activity. On Friday night, we headed to the store to grab a picnic dinner and then to the park where the fort is. We learned a little about the history that is was built in 1833 when trappers came to trap fur animals and trade with the Indians. After touring the buildings, enjoying lemonade and ice cream, seeing the blacksmith, and hiking up the bastion, the real highlight was the candy cannon filled with taffy. Benjamin rushed out and got two pieces. It was a great family night!
